IMPACT OF THE FOUNDATION
Donations are the driving force behind the LAFD Foundation's funding accomplishments. Every donation, no matter what amount, directly impacts the members of the LAFD and affects their ability to keep L.A. safe.
Donor dollars translate into:
- Equipment and safety gear that protects firefighters from sudden injuries
- Tools that help locate, rescue, and administer care for victims
- Technology to track and minimize wildfire risks for fire-prone communities
- Programs to safeguard firefighters' physical and mental health
When you give to the LAFD Foundation, you can do so with pride and confidence. More than $.90 of each dollar funds critical tools, equipment, technology, and training programs.
Every gift counts. Over the past four years, the LAFD Foundation has provided more than $10M in funding towards high-impact needs. Examples of previously funded items are listed below.
-
STRUCTURE FIRE GLOVES
With the help of the Annenberg and Wasserman Foundations, the Foundation was able to equip every LAFD firefighter with two new pairs of gloves that offer maximum grip and dexterity while protecting against exposure to chemicals, carcinogens, heat, and direct flame.
-
RS3 FIREFIGHTING ROBOT
Thanks to donors, the LAFD is the first in the nation to add a robotic firefighting vehicle to its fleet. The RS3 will be housed with the Urban Search and Rescue team at Fire Station 3 in Downtown LA and will be deployed to incidents.
-
ADOPT-A-FIRE-STATION
The Adopt-a-Fire-Station program (AAFS) is designed to improve or sustain the quality of life in the station by supplying appliances, equipment, and tools that are not included in the city budget. Since 2018, the LAFD Foundation purchased about 25 ice machines and over 50 items of gym equipment.
-
THERMAL IMAGING CAMERAS
With the generosity of our donors, the Foundation provided every single firefighter in the field with a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC). The LAFD became the first department ever to do this.
-
HYDRATION BACKPACKS
The Foundation has equipped every single LAFD firefighter with a Mystery Ranch hydration backpack. This piece of equipment is specifically designed for firefighters. It carries a 3-quart hydration pack along with a fire shelter, a heavyweight foil tent crucial for firefighters overrun by fire.
-
WILDLAND FIRE HELMETS
These helmets protect those in the field from harmful UV rays and heat-related exhaustion. Now, every single firefighter has been equipped with new helmets.
