Lunch at the fire station is more than just a break, it’s an important part of a firefighter’s day. Their work is physically demanding, and they must stay fueled to respond quickly and effectively when emergencies arise. Sharing meals also strengthens the sense of teamwork and camaraderie that supports firefighter’s mental well-being.
At Fire Station 60, one dish that always brings everyone together is flavorful beef teriyaki bowls with white rice and a fresh cucumber salad. Firefighters appreciate meals that are quick to prepare, filling, and easy to serve family-style.

Ingredients
Easy Teriyaki Sauce
Directions
1. Cook the white rice according to package instructions.
2. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
3. Mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry, then stir it into the sauce. Cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
4. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sliced beef until browned. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the beef and simmer for a few minutes until the meat is fully coated.
5. In a bowl, toss cucumbers with rice vinegar, sesame oil, and a pinch of salt and lemon juice to make the cucumber salad.
6. Assemble bowls with rice, teriyaki beef, and cucumber salad. Add optional toppings if desired.
