With 96% of its budget earmarked for personnel costs, the LAFD relies on supplemental, private support to fund crucial equipment.
Some of the recent items the LAFD Foundation has provided include:
In 2018, we funded 3,200 hydration backpacks. This specially designed gear offers firefighters a 3-quart hydration pack, can support a hose line and carry a fire shelter.
In 2018, we funded 1,100 hand-held, thermal imaging cameras have been purchased, enough for every on-duty LAFD firefighter.
In 2018, we purchased 3,200 insulated hydration bottles for every LAFD firefighter to keep their water cool as they work.
The Foundation provides ongoing funding for 4 Youth Programs: FIRE Academies, Cadets, Fire and EMS Magnet High Schools, and Girls Camp.
To date, we have funded 3,200 wildland brush helmets so that every LAFD firefighter has received one to use in fighting brush and wildland fires.
During the past year, the LAFD Foundation provided 30 fire stations with over $140,000 worth of equipment through the Adopt-A-Fire-Station Program.
